Dude told me my feeds and speeds sounded like a washing machine, changed everything
Some old timer at the shop in Detroit said my machine sounded like it was trying to start a fight with a rock, so I slowed my spindle down by 2000 RPM and doubled my feed rate. Now parts come off smoother and I don't get those chatter marks on the edges anymore. Any of you guys run a badass insert that handles aluminum without a ton of cleanup?

You running a small end mill or something bigger? I had a chatter issue on a 1/2" 3-flute in 6061 and switched to a helically ground insert with a polished chip breaker, no joke it feels like the tool is just whispering through. For aluminum I keep my DOC around 0.050" per pass with a feed around 0.008 IPT and it leaves almost a mirror finish, barely any sanding needed. They cost a bit more but the time you save on cleanup is worth it.

You tried slow and heavy yet? Sometimes a lower spindle with a bigger chip load cleans up way better than any fancy insert. That old timer probably saved you a pile of scrap.
