Got a 30% speed increase just from changing my chip load

Been running the same setup for months on a 3/8 end mill. Finally looked closer at the speeds and feeds chart. Bumped the feed rate up from 20 to 26 IPM. Faster cycle time and way better surface finish. No chatter either. Why did I wait so long to tweak it? Anyone else ever get scared to push the feed rate higher?

Look, tbh I've seen this go wrong way more often than it goes right. That 3/8 end mill in a rigid machine with good hold? Sure, 26 IPM might work. But most people running the same chart don't have that setup. I pushed a 1/2 end mill to 30 IPM once on a worn-out Bridgeport and the chatter was so bad I thought the tool was gonna snap. Ended up scrap a part and wasted an hour. The chart speeds are conservative for a reason, they account for different machines and workholding. Ngl, my experience is that a 10% bump is risky enough, double digit jumps like 30% are straight up gambling unless you know exactly what your machine can handle.

Yeah slow and steady wins the race, bump it 5% at a time.
