I finally hit under 0.001 tolerance on a part
Been running these aluminum brackets for 3 months and finally got a run where every single one came in under 0.001 inch. Found out my old offset was off by 0.0005 from a worn tool holder. Has anyone else found tiny tool holder wear messing with their numbers?

Honestly I'm not sure it's that big of a deal. I've been running parts for 7 years and I've never checked my tool holder wear that close. Most of my stuff is off by 0.002-0.003 and it still passes inspection fine. Maybe if you're doing aerospace work sure, but aluminum brackets for standard stuff? I'd say you're overthinking it.

...and that's what my buddy Dave said too, until he had a job where a 0.003 error on his tool holder ended up getting him a whole batch of parts rejected. The print was standard aluminum brackets, nothing fancy, but the customer was measuring everything dead nuts to the spec. It took him almost a week to figure out the tool holder was the problem after changing everything else first. So yeah, it might not matter 99 times out of 100, but that one time it does will cost you way more than checking it would have.
