Just figured out I had my boring bar hanging out way too far on the lathe for almost 4 years
Was fighting chatter on a 4140 shaft last Tuesday so I finally checked the setup sheet and my bar was sticking out almost 3 inches when it should have been barely 1.5, cut the overhang down and the chatter vanished, finish came out mirror smooth. How far do you all run your bars on deep bores, do you push the limit or play it safe?
