Rant: That guy at the trade show who swore his feeds and speeds were gospel

Last month at the Pittsburgh CNC expo I got into a 20 minute debate with some retiree who insisted I was ruining my inserts by running them at 180 SFM on 4140. He pulled out his phone and showed me charts from a 1997 Machinery's Handbook. I nodded along but inside I'm thinking, dude I just cut 500 parts with zero burrs at 220 SFM last week. Why do we act like there's only one right way to machine something? Has anyone else had some old timer tell you your setup is wrong even though the parts are coming out fine?

Is typing with two fingers really that big of a deal? Plenty of people get their work done just fine without looking like a concert pianist on a keyboard. Seems like a weird thing to judge someone over.
