Rant: The new guy ran a 1/4 inch carbide end mill at 12,000 RPM in 4140 and it sounded like a bomb going off.
I mean, the whole shop jumped and the tool holder was just full of dust, so has anyone else had to explain feed and speed to someone who just won't listen?

My buddy did that once and his boss just sighed, handed him a new one, and walked away without a word (it was honestly way worse than getting yelled at).

Read a forum post where a guy called it "making popcorn" when you run a tool way too fast. That's the perfect way to describe that awful sound! It's like every single cutting edge just shatters at once. Explaining speeds feels basic, but some people just have to learn by breaking stuff. It's frustrating because that loud bang means the tool didn't cut, it just exploded.
