Swore grease pencils were outdated until a buddy showed me his marking setup

A guy I work with at the shop in Cleveland pulled out a grease pencil for setup marks on a new aluminum job and it was way cleaner than my scribe marks, no scratching at all. I had to try it myself after he walked me through how he sharpens them on a file. Anyone else made the switch or stick with scribes for a reason?

Yeah he showed me how to sharpen them on a file too. Tried it on some stainless and it was way better than I expected. No scratches, no gouges. Scribe still has its place for real precision work but for rough layout the grease pencil is hard to beat.

Funny how that works, isn't it. The right tool for the job changes depending on what you're doing, and half the time it's the simple stuff that saves the day. Makes you wonder how many other things we overcomplicate just because that's how we were taught.
