Vent: Ran feed too slow for 3 years and never knew it

I was convinced slow feed was the way to go for cleaner edges until I watched a guy at a job shop in Detroit push the same aluminum part at double my rate. His finish was better and his tool life was longer. Has anyone else had a speed adjustment completely change their results?

Heard a tooling rep say once that most guys are running 30-40% slower than what their tool is actually capable of. Made me think. Took a 6061 job from 6000 rpm to 10000 rpm and bumped the feed from 20 IPM to 35 IPM. Chip load stayed the same but the heat went into the chip instead of the part. Edges stopped chattering and the finish actually came out better.

Totally, same here, that heat going into the chip instead of the parts a game changer.
