Veteran machinist told me dry ice was better than coolant for this job

Last Tuesday I had a run of 316 stainless parts with terrible burr issues on the back side. Old timer Bill who's been running Bridgeports since the 80s said to skip the flood coolant and hit the cut with dry ice pellets instead. I thought he was messing with me, but I was desperate so I tried it on one part. The burr basically fell off and the surface finish was better than anything I got with coolant that whole week. Now I'm wondering how many other 'old school' tricks I've been ignoring because they sound weird. Has anyone else tried unconventional cooling methods that actually worked out?
