Wasted 4 hours on a tool offset issue last Friday
Checked every setting twice. Tore apart the program. Turned out my tool height offset was just one decimal off. How often do you guys catch decimal slip ups?

Piggybacking off that notebook idea honestly double down on it. I bought a cheap pocket notebook from the gas station and I write every single offset down with a date and time stamp before I key it in. Then I physically check the DRO against the notebook before I hit cycle start. Takes maybe 30 extra seconds but it's saved me from chasing ghost errors more times than I can count. The physical act of writing it makes your brain actually process the number versus just staring at a screen.

A .001 slip on a tool offset cost me a whole batch of aluminum parts once. I started using a quick sanity check where I run a test cut on a scrap piece before any real job. It catches those decimal errors before they mess up anything important. Now I also write my offsets down in a notebook instead of just typing them in. That extra step saves me a ton of headache, even if it feels a little old school.
