A reviewer on my first Python script told me my variable names were "a crime scene," and yeah, he was right
I had stuff like x2, temp, and dataFinalFINAL sitting in a 40 line script that counted words in a text file, and he said to just name things what they actually are, so now I write stuff like word_count and cleaned_line and I can actually read my own code a week later, does anyone else have a naming habit they had to break?
Oh man my buddy had the same thing with his JS projects, everything was just "thing" and "stuff2" lol. His wakeup call was when he spent like an hour hunting a bug and it turned out "stuff2" was the wrong one the whole time. Now he names everything like he's writing a sentence and swears it saved his sanity.
