My first hackathon in Columbus was a total reality check

I signed up for a 24 hour beginner hackathon downtown and thought I knew enough Python to get by. By hour 6, I realized everyone else had already built APIs and I was still trying to figure out how to merge my git branches. The organizers kept saying 'just use the docs' but the docs might as well have been in another language. Has anyone else walked into one of these events way over their head and actually finished something?
