Pro tip: I chose freeCodeCamp over Codecademy and it was the right call
Everyone in this group seems to push Codecademy as the only way to start learning code, but I went with freeCodeCamp instead after trying both for a week each. Codecademy felt too hand-holdy with their guided exercises, like I was just copying steps without actually thinking. freeCodeCamp threw me into building real projects from day one, even if they were ugly little things like a survey form with no styling. I spent 3 months grinding through their responsive web design course and actually felt like I could make a webpage from scratch by the end. The tradeoff is there's no fancy interface or progress tracking, just a text editor and a challenge. Has anyone else here ditched the paid platforms and just used free resources? I'm curious if I missed out on something.

yo honestly did you feel like you were actually learning or just clicking through stuff with codecademy? i tried both too and freecodecamp just stuck better with me. ngl i spent like 2 months on their javascript algorithms course and it kicked my butt but i actually remembered the concepts after. the projects forced me to google stuff and figure it out on my own instead of having my hand held the whole time. tbh i think that's the only way coding really sinks in
