Pro tip: Practice on throwaway projects before touching real code
Last Saturday I was at a local hackathon in Austin and watched three beginners freeze up when their group project hit a merge conflict. I've been there too, I used to panic and undo everything. Now I keep a junk folder with fake projects just for testing git stuff, like branching and reverting, so when it happens for real I'm not scared. It took me about 4 hours over two weekends to get comfortable, and it saved my butt on a client site last month. Anyone else do mock drills like this, or do you just learn by breaking things on purpose?
