Showerthought: I spent 3 weeks stuck on a while loop until I just wrote out the steps on paper

Back in my first Python class at the community college in Tulsa I could not figure out why my loop kept running forever, so I grabbed a notebook and traced each line by hand like a robot. Turned out I forgot to update the counter, and seeing it written out made the mistake obvious in like 2 minutes. Does anyone else still do the paper thing when code stops making sense?
