Spent $30 on a Python course on Udemy and it actually taught me nothing

I saw a course with good reviews and bought it last month. The guy just read slides for 4 hours and called it a lesson. No practice projects or real examples at all. I ended up learning more from free YouTube tutorials in two days. Has anyone else wasted money on a beginner course that looked good but was basically useless?

Blame yourself not the course. You picked a bad one with high reviews because you didn't look past the star rating at what was actually in it.

You got a point that people need to look closer at reviews, but blaming the student for picking a bad course is a little harsh. Sometimes a course has great ratings because the first few modules are solid, then it falls apart halfway through. Like that Python course everyone raves about with 4.8 stars, but once you get past the basics the instructor stops explaining things and just reads code off the screen. Reviews can be misleading when people leave them early or don't update them after finishing. So yeah, some blame falls on the student for not digging deeper, but the course creators and the review system share a big chunk of that too.
