Thought Python was overhyped until I actually used it for a real project

I spent months learning HTML and CSS first because I thought Python was for serious programmers only... not beginners like me. Then my kid needed a script to rename about 200 photo files from their summer camp and I figured I'd give it a shot. Found a 10 minute YouTube tutorial and literally had it working in under 20 lines of code. That was maybe 2 months ago and now I'm using it for all sorts of small automation stuff around the house. Has anyone else had that moment where a language they wrote off ended up being way more useful than they expected?

My buddy swore by Excel macros until he automated his whole kitchen pantry inventory with Python in one afternoon.

Well now, I'm not sure I'd trade my old Excel setup for Python just yet. Macros have always treated me fine for the small stuff I need to track. But I can see how Python would be cleaner for something as big as a whole pantry system.

Oh man, are we really comparing Excel macros to Python like it's some life-changing decision? It's just a pantry list, not a rocket launch.
