Tried coding with Notepad for a week vs VS Code for a day
I was learning Python and figured I'd keep it simple by using Notepad to write everything out. After 7 days of constant typos and no syntax highlighting, I switched to VS Code and finished my first project in 4 hours. How do you beginners decide when to ditch basic tools for something more advanced?

Nah, you stuck with Notepad for way too long. That's like trying to fix a car with a butter knife. Notepad is fine for maybe 15 minutes of writing a quick script, but any real project you're just making life harder for no reason. Once you've got the basics down, grabbing something with syntax highlighting is a no-brainer. I'd say the moment you're typing more than 50 lines or trying to debug something, you've already passed the point where a basic editor is holding you back. VS Code or even Notepad++ would've saved you like 6 days of frustration.

Notepad++ would've caught those typos in real time.
