French press vs pour over, I went with the press and never looked back

About 5 years ago I was standing in a kitchen supply store in Nashville trying to decide between a $25 French press and a $40 pour over setup. I picked the press because it seemed simpler. No specialty filters to buy, no gooseneck kettle needed. Just coffee, hot water, and a plunger. Been using it every morning since, only had to replace the glass once after I dropped it. Has anyone else stuck with one method for years and never bothered trying the other?

Gotta disagree a bit with @lisar14 on the natural oils thing. I've read that too but honestly I think it's more about preference than some big health benefit. The oils can make the coffee taste muddy or bitter if you let it steep too long, which is why I press right at four minutes and pour it all out fast. I actually like that pour over filters catch more of the fine grounds and sediment, gives a cleaner cup. Have you ever tried a pour over just to see what you're missing?

Read a food blog that said French press gives you more natural oils.
