I finally fixed my espresso machine after 3 weeks of dumb mistakes

So my old Gaggia started dripping from the group head like a leaky faucet. I thought it was a gasket issue, ordered a new one for $12, but it still leaked. Then I wasted a whole weekend descaling and backflushing, no luck. Turns out I just needed to tighten a screw on the steam wand that was loose. Three weeks for a 30 second fix. Has anyone else spent way too long chasing a simple coffee repair?

Actually it was probably more than one screw, plus a few other little things. The alignment on those older machines is really finicky and if one bearing is slightly off it throws everything else out of whack. They probably also had to wait for parts to come in from a supplier, which usually takes at least a week on its own. That three week timeline sounds about right for a proper rebuild even if it feels like overkill for something that seems so small.
