Just read that the average coffee enthusiast in the US spends about $1,100 a year on beans and gear. Found it in a survey from the National Coffee Association.

Is that just for home brewing or does it count all the coffee shop trips too?

Seriously, how much coffee are we talking about? If someone buys a bag of beans for home, that's maybe twenty cups. But adding a daily latte from a shop makes the cost and waste totally different. It feels like people just pick the number that fits the point they want to make.

Oh come on, even a home bag of beans costs more than people admit when you factor in the grinder, the filters, the electricity to boil water, and the inevitable spilled grounds. And that daily latte from a shop adds up way faster than anyone wants to admit, so the real number is always higher than whatever convenient figure people toss out.
