My barista buddy convinced me pour overs beat my espresso routine

I've been doing espresso shots at home for like 4 years with a used Gaggia I got off Craigslist. Last Saturday my friend Mark who works at a shop in Portland pulled me aside and said, 'You're fighting the machine, not making coffee.' He showed me his V60 method with a cheap gooseneck kettle and a scale. I tried it with the same beans I use for espresso and the fruity notes actually came through, never got that from my shots. Now I'm wondering if I should sell the Gaggia and go full manual, or keep both for when I need a quick caffeine hit. Anyone else made the switch and regretted it?
