My best coffee week ever started with a broken grinder
Last Tuesday my Baratza Encore just died. Burnt motor smell. I panicked. Grabbed a bag of pre-ground from the local roaster in Portland as a backup. That's when I realized my grinder was producing way too many fines all along. The pre-ground stuff was more consistent. Cups tasted cleaner, sweeter. Has anyone else had a broken machine accidentally improve their coffee?

Wow yeah, sometimes getting knocked down a peg actually helps.

Read this article about how Olympic athletes actually train better after failing a big competition. They say the loss resets your ego and makes you focus on technique instead of image. Really stuck with me. Maybe getting humbled is just part of growing.
