My uncle swore by pre-wetting coffee filters and I finally tried it
My uncle Bob, who's been roasting beans for like 30 years out of his garage in Portland, told me to always wet the filter before adding grounds. I figured it was just extra fuss for nothing so I ignored him for months. One day I tested it side by side with a v60 and the pre-wet batch tasted way cleaner with less paper taste. Has anyone else seen a big difference from doing this trick?

Tried it myself a few years back after reading about it on a coffee forum. The paper taste is definitely real and wetting the filter gets rid of it almost completely. I also noticed the water flows through more evenly, no more channeling or stalled pours. Just takes a few extra seconds but the difference is worth it.

Absolutely, wetting the filter fixes so many little problems before they even start.
