Roast date vs best by date is a total trap
I bought a bag last week at a market in Austin that said 'best by' eight months out. Figured it was fresh since it was from a local roaster. Turns out the beans were roasted four months ago and tasted flat, no bloom at all when I poured water over them. I checked their site and they only put roast dates on the back label in tiny print. Anyone else get burned by this or do you all check for a roast date first thing?

Getting burned by that exact thing once made me flip the bag over before buying every single time now. If there's no roast date clearly on the front or back, I just put it back and grab something from a shop that prints it big.
