Tried a Chemex vs my old French press for a month straight
The Chemex makes cleaner coffee but man, I missed the body and oils from the press so bad I switched back after 2 weeks. Anybody else find the paper filter strips too much flavor out?

Man the Chemex is basically the coffee equivalent of a museum piece - looks great, feels fancy, but leaves you hungry. Paper filters are like that friend who steals all the good parts of a conversation. French press lets you chew your coffee if you're not careful but at least you get the full experience, grinds and all. Switched back after a week myself and felt like I was drinking coffee through a turtleneck sweater.

Ha! Yeah I read this one article from some coffee science nerd who tested it with a refractometer and paper filters actually strip out like 40% of the oils and fine particles. That explains why Chemex coffee tastes so clean it's basically coffee flavored water. French press lets all that good stuff through which is why it feels more like real coffee. I tried the metal filter for Chemex once and it was better but still not as good as my press. Some people love that clean taste but I need my coffee to have some guts to it.
