Old dealer at a show told me my map of 'Terra Australis' was a 20th century reproduction, not 18th century.

He pointed to the paper texture and said 'look at the chain lines, they're too perfect for a hand-laid sheet.' I was sure it was real but now I'm seeing it everywhere - that fake even fooled my appraiser friend.

Yeah, that "look at the chain lines" thing got me too. I used to think I could spot a fake by just feeling the paper, but now I realize how easy it is to miss those little details. It really makes you wonder how many other "perfect" reproductions are out there passing as real.

Right @jade_grant95, but what about the folks who just buy these fakes and never even try to validate them? Like I bet half the "vintage" stuff on Etsy right now is just well made copies and nobody's the wiser.
