Showerthought: a seller in Portland talked me out of the pricey fake maps and I'm glad he did
Everyone in this hobby seems to chase the big money fakes, but a guy at a paper show in Portland 8 months ago flipped my thinking. I was about to drop $180 on a made up island map that looked old, and he asked me one thing, why pay for someone else's fake when you can map a place that never existed yourself. I started drawing my own fake coastlines on cheap coffee stained paper and now I have 11 of them pinned above my desk. The made up towns and crooked rivers I put on them mean more to me than any bought map ever did. Does anyone else here draw their own weird maps, or am I the odd one out?
