The mall map that led me to a broom closet

I picked up this mall directory from 1994 at a garage sale in Phoenix. The cartoon style was charming, little illustrations of fountains and stores. Last week I tried to use it to find a specific shop that supposedly still operated there. I walked past a Cinnabon three times before realizing the map had the whole east wing mirrored wrong. Does anyone else test these old maps against real locations just to see how far off they are?

Actually, the east wing probably wasn't mirrored wrong. Most malls from that era flipped their maps intentionally to match the view coming in from the main entrance, so it would look normal from that direction but backwards everywhere else.

Kevin nailed it with that explanation. Maps from that era were all about perspective not accuracy. Made sense for the time even if it messes with our heads now.
