The switch from digital globes to a 1970s paper globe felt like a downgrade at first

I used to just pull up Google Earth anytime I wanted to see a weird map or old boundary line. Then I picked up this beat up 1972 paper globe at a thrift store for $8 and hung it in my office. Now I actually notice countries that don't even exist anymore like Yugoslavia and Upper Volta because I stare at it every day. The globe has a big crack in the equator too but it just adds to the character. Has anyone else found an old atlas or globe that totally changed how you look at modern borders?

Honestly I used to think paper maps were just old and outdated but now I get why people love them. Something about seeing those old borders feels more real than a screen.
