Took me 4 days to figure out my 1892 Chicago map was printed backward
I picked up this old street map of Chicago at an estate sale in Aurora for $40. Every time I laid it flat, the north side of the city looked wrong compared to modern maps. I kept blaming my reading of it, then the seller, then some weird edge trim on the paper. Turns out the printer had flipped the plate and the whole thing was mirrored, so what I thought was the lake was actually the west side. Four days of lining it up against my 1901 Rand McNally before I noticed the street names were all reversed. Anybody else run into mirror printed maps, and is there a fast way to spot one without a second map to check it against?
