Vent: A customer at the antique shop laughed at my 1870s map of a fictional California island
He said it was worthless because it's not real, but that just made me realize I love collecting maps of places that never existed even more than the real ones, and I have about 30 now - anybody else get weird looks for their fake maps?

Oh man I've been there more times than I can count. Last year at a flea market in Portland some guy told me my 1920s map of Atlantis was "a waste of good shelf space" right as I was handing over forty bucks for it. Honestly you just have to ignore them and keep doing what makes you happy. I started carrying a little card in my wallet that says "fictional maps are historical documents of imagination" which shuts people up pretty fast. If you ever find yourself in that situation again just smile and tell them yours actually holds value to people who appreciate the history of cartography and human creativity.

Oh man that reminds me of my buddy Dave! He collects maps of places that got wiped out by natural disasters and someone at a flea market told him he was basically collecting "disaster porn." He just shrugged and bought three more volcano eruption maps right in front of the guy.
