Appreciation post: The old guy at my LCS who told me to stop bagging Silver Age books in Mylar

Back in 2018 I started collecting older comics, Silver Age stuff from the late 60s. A retiree named Frank who works Saturdays at my local shop in Portland saw me sliding a beat-up ASM #50 into a Mylar bag. He pulled me aside and said 'Son, those bags are too stiff for that paper, you're gonna crack the spine over time.' I brushed him off because I thought Mylar was the best protection. Fast forward three years and I noticed hairline cracks forming along the spine of a few books. Frank was right. I switched back to standard poly bags with backing boards and the cracking stopped. Now I only use Mylar for modern books with thicker cover stock. Has anyone else gotten advice from an older collector that saved them money or grief down the line?
