Found a way to organize my long boxes that actually works

I got tired of digging through 5 long boxes to find a single issue. Tried sorting by publisher then alphabetical for years but it was still a mess. Last month I switched to sorting by character team and then by release year. So all my X-Men stuff from the 80s is together, 90s in the next box, etc. It makes grabbing books for a reading order way faster. I also started writing the year ranges on the box lids with a white paint pen. Took me a Saturday to redo everything but now I can find any book in 2 minutes. Anyone else got a better system for their floppy collection?

Bold of you to assume my comics are organized enough to have a system. Mine are basically in "whatever pile I threw them in after reading" order. I found a Batman issue from 1993 mixed in with my New 52 stuff last week and I'm pretty sure the comics are judging me for it. Your paint pen idea is genius though, I've been using sticky notes that fall off every time I sneeze near the box. Maybe I'll give it a shot once I work up the courage to actually face the chaos.

Wait, you sorted by team AND year? You're out here building a library while I'm still running a comic orphanage where misplaced issues go to cry. @kelly_coleman61 I'm with you on the sticky note curse, I wrote "DC 90s" on one and it landed on a box full of Savage Dragon and I just let it stay because the chaos felt honest. My current system is "whatever fits in the box after I cram it shut" which means my Amazing Spider-Man from 1988 is roommates with a random issue of Gen13 that I bought for the cover. Y'all are making me feel like a comic hoarder with a gambling problem.
