Got roasted by a comic shop guy for my bagging method, totally changed it up

So I went to this local shop in Austin last weekend to get some silver age issues I'd bagged myself. The owner took one look and said 'dude, you're folding the flaps wrong, those will get dented in a month.' I'd been bagging comics for like 10 years at that point and never thought about it. He showed me how to fold the flaps flat against the back instead of tucking them inside. Now I re-bagged my whole collection of about 300 books over two days. Anyone else get a weird tip from a shop that made you feel dumb but actually helped?

Yeah, the 'folding the flaps wrong' thing got me too. I used to just tuck them inside because I figured it looked cleaner and kept dust out. But a shop guy at a convention I went to last year basically said the same thing your guy did. He showed me how pressure builds up and folds the book when you tuck the flap in, especially if the bag is tight. I switched over to the flat fold method and honestly it does make a difference, especially with books that have a little bend to them already. Felt dumb for not thinking about it sooner, but now I'm pretty sold on his way.
