Had to choose between two long boxes at a garage sale yesterday

I was at a garage sale in Arlington and found two long boxes of comics for $40 each. One was mostly 90s X-Men issues and the other was a random mix of Bronze Age DC stuff. I grabbed the X-Men box because I know those sell easy on eBay. Got home and found a near-mint Uncanny X-Men 266 in there, worth about $80 on its own. Anybody else ever luck out on a blind box buy like that?

Oh man, that's a killer find. I mean I used to be the type who thought blind boxes were basically just paying for trash. Figured garage sale guys always pick through the good stuff first. But I grabbed a random box of DC once for $15 at a flea market and found a first print Watchmen #1 in there. Not perfect condition but still. Changed my whole view on it. Now I always peek in those $40 boxes even if the top layer looks rough.

That's the thing, it's like a lesson in not judging based on first impressions. I see it everywhere, not just with comics. Like when I go thrift shopping, I'll grab a stained shirt from the bottom rack and find out it's a vintage band tee worth something, you know? Or when people toss aside a scratched-up record jacket but the vinyl inside is clean. It's this weird pattern where the stuff that looks rough on top hides the real gems underneath. Makes you wonder how many good things we walk past every day just because they're not pretty on the outside.
