I finally get why some comic book fans hate movie adaptations now

So three years ago I was at a convention in Nashville and saw a guy ranting about how Batman v Superman ruined his childhood. I rolled my eyes back then, thought he was just a gatekeeper. But last month I watched The Last Airbender with my nephew and got legit angry at how they butchered it. Now I totally see where those fans were coming from, the attachment to source material is real. Has anyone else had that moment where a bad adaptation made you side with the purists?

The Percy Jackson movies did that for me, I grew up loving those books and seeing them turned into generic teen action flicks just hurt.

Oh man, I totally get that. It's the worst when something you love as a kid gets turned into something that just doesn't capture the magic. Sorry you had to go through that.

Read somewhere that Rick Riordan actually wrote a whole essay about why the movies failed. Said the directors never even read the books. Just grabbed the names and slapped them on a generic script. Made me respect the guy more for calling it out.
