I thought the 'no polybag' rule for back issue storage was just gatekeeping until my copy of X-Men 141 got a permanent crease.

I kept a mint 1981 issue in a cheap grocery bag for years, but moving it to a short box last week made me see how much pressure those flimsy bags actually put on the spine over time.

Wait, but how many people are actually reading these books? If it's just sitting in a box forever, does a tiny crease even matter?

My buddy sold a rare comic he had in a box for years. That tiny crease willowroberts mentioned knocked like fifty bucks off the price. He was pretty bummed.

Well, if it's just sitting in a box forever, then yeah, a crease probably doesn't matter much. But how do you know for sure it'll never get sold or passed down to someone who does care? Isn't that the whole gamble with collecting anything?
