My local comic shop had a 'bring your own hero' day and it went off the rails

Last Saturday, my usual shop in Tempe tried this event where you had to dress as a hero you made up. It sounded fun, but it turned into a total mess. This one guy showed up as 'Captain Continuity,' a hero whose power was to loudly point out plot holes in everyone else's costume backstory. He spent twenty minutes arguing with a kid dressed as 'The Gamer' about power scaling logic. The owner finally had to step in when a debate over whether 'Mister Monday' could beat 'Weekend Warrior' got too heated. I just wanted to grab the new X-Men issue, but I was stuck in a nerd argument vortex for an hour. Has your shop ever tried an event that sounded good but just created chaos?

Man, that sounds like a nightmare. Did your shop ever do one of those "build your own deck" tournaments for a card game? Ours did and it was just two guys yelling about whether a homemade "draw 50 cards" card broke the "spirit of the game" for three rounds.

Did the shop owner at least get a good story out of it?
