Showerthought: People keep calling my Miles Morales hoodie a 'Spiderman costume'

I was at the grocery store last Tuesday wearing my black and red Miles hoodie, and this guy in line goes 'cool Spiderman outfit'. I had to explain it's not a costume, it's just a hoodie based on a specific character from a different universe. It's happened like three times this month. Does anyone else get this mix-up with casual comic gear?

That reminds me of my friend who has this awesome Captain America shield backpack. She gets people asking if she's headed to a comic convention almost every time she wears it out. It's just a normal backpack, you know? But the second it has a superhero logo on it, some folks assume you're in full cosplay mode. Makes you wonder if they think she's also carrying a vibranium shield in there.

Wait, does she actually have a shield in there?

This thing about the shield backpack reminded me of something that happened to my buddy last month @willowroberts. He was wearing a plain black t-shirt with the small League of Legends logo on the chest, and this old guy at the bus stop asked him if he was going to a "gaming tournament." My friend just said "no, I like the game" and the guy kept going on about how he thought only cosplayers wore that stuff. Couple days later he wore the same shirt to grab coffee and the barista asked if his "team" won that day. People really just see any logo and assume you're in character mode.
