That comic shop owner in Denver told me to stop hoarding variants
I used to buy every variant cover that dropped for my favorite titles, spent like $80 a month extra just on different covers. The guy at Mile High Comics straight up said "you're not collecting, you're just buying the same story 5 times." That hit different because he was right, I had 4 copies of the same Venom issue just with different art. I switched to only grabbing variants from artists I actually follow on social media or ones that really stand out. Now I put that money into indie books I'd never try otherwise, found some killer stuff from small presses. Has anyone else had a shop owner talk them out of bad habits?

Read an article in a comic trade mag about how the variant market is crashing. People are sitting on stacks of covers from the 90s that are basically worthless now. Makes me think that shop owner did you a favor. I only grab variants for my absolute favorite characters now, like one per year maybe.

Totally agree, it's like the whole sneakerhead thing too. People chasing every limited drop and then years later half of them are just sitting in boxes nobody wants.
