The 90s X-Men art style gets too much praise now

I grew up on Jim Lee's stuff but when I flip back to those 1992 issues, everyone has the same five face shapes and the action feels stiff compared to today's artists. Why does the nostalgia crowd ignore how much storytelling detail we got after 2000? Has anyone else gone back and felt let down by what they remembered as peak comic art?

So you're telling me the nostalgia crowd has actually gone back and re-read those issues, or are they just remembering the covers and the animated series? Cause I did the same thing with a bunch of old Wizard magazines and the interiors hit way different once you notice every panel is just Wolverine crouching in the same dramatic pose. The storytelling after 2000 definitely upped the game, especially with pacing and using the page layout to build tension, but maybe that gets overlooked cause it's not as flashy. Do you think the praise is more about the marker of an era rather than the actual art holding up?
