Took my little cousin to a comic con in Portland and realized I was gatekeeping
He was super excited about a new Miles Morales variant cover, and I caught myself telling him it wasn't as good as the original run. The look on his face totally shut me up, and I just bought him the book instead. When did you realize you were being a snob about comics?

Nah, you weren't gatekeeping, you were just sharing context. If the new variant cover is riding on the original run's hype, that's a fair point. @elizabeth_williams is being too nice about it. Standards matter, otherwise everything gets called a classic. Your cousin will learn the difference later and probably thank you for it. Buying the book was cool, but you shouldn't feel bad for having an opinion on what's good.

Tbh, I gotta push back a little here. Look, the original run by Bendis and Maleev is still one of the best Daredevil stories ever, I'll never argue that. But the new variant cover by a different artist isn't some cheap cash grab, it's just a new take on a classic. Dylan, you're acting like Elizabeth is soft for not trashing the cover, but she's just keeping it chill. Buying a book because you like the art is valid, even if you haven't read the story yet. Standards matter sure, but so does not being a gatekeeper about every little thing. Let people enjoy stuff without needing a PhD in comic history first.
