Almost got bent out of shape because I ignored a dive buddy's warning
Last spring on a job off the coast of Mobile, my dive buddy Mike told me to triple check my cutting torch hose clamps before going down. I figured he was being paranoid since I had double clamped everything already. Well I went down to 80 feet on a platform leg and about 5 minutes in I felt a sudden hiss behind my back. My hose had slipped off the fitting and I lost half my gas mix in seconds. I had to abort the job and surface slow which ate up 2 hours of bottom time. Mike's been doing this for 15 years and I should have just listened instead of rolling my eyes. Anyone else ever get schooled by an old timer on something that seemed nitpicky?

Had a buddy once who ignored a deckhand's tip about a frayed rope and nearly lost his hand overboard.
