Almost lost my buddy on a silt-out at the Port of Seattle last Tuesday
Too many guys skip their pre-dive buddy checks, especially on low vis days. Do yours every single time or you're risking someone's life down there. Has anyone else had a near miss from skipping the basics?

Oh man, a free ascent in zero vis is no joke. I had a similar thing happen years ago off Cove 2 and it still gives me the creeps thinking about it. Glad you made it up safe, that kind of thing really makes you appreciate having a solid system with your dive buddy.

Port of Seattle silt outs are basically free chaos mode. I swear my buddy check that day was just me yelling "you good?" and him giving me a thumbs up from 3 feet away. Bare minimum effort, maximum terror outcome.

Glad your buddy is okay, that sounds terrifying. I had a close call myself last year when I got separated from my dive partner in zero vis off Alki and had to do a free ascent.
