Had to choose between a new dive knife or a pizza for the crew after a long day in the Houston ship channel.

I went with the pizza, which was a huge hit until my old knife's strap broke and I spent 20 minutes trying to cut some line with a pair of rusty channel locks.

That "20 minutes trying to cut line with rusty channel locks" is the perfect picture of how a small gear failure turns into a huge pain. You always think you can make do until you're actually stuck doing it. A knife is one of those things you don't miss until it's gone and you're fighting with a bad backup. Pizza is the right call for morale, but man it makes you want to double check all your old gear straps the second you get home.

Nah, pizza was still the right call. @finley_lopez98, that old strap was gonna break on the next job anyway. Now you know for sure and can just grab a new knife.

But come on, how often does that really happen? Most of the time the backup tool works fine and you just feel silly for buying new stuff you didn't need.
