Heads up about that old O-ring trick for the Kirby Morgan hat

I spent nearly 6 hours trying to seat a stubborn O-ring on my KM-37 last Thursday. Kept thinking I just needed to lube it more and wiggle it in. Turns out I had a tiny nick on the groove itself that I kept missing because I was rushing. Finally pulled out a magnifying glass and a pick set and found it in 10 minutes. Has anyone else spent way too long on a stupid simple fix like that?

Ha, not buying it. You sure that nick was actually there before you started messing with it? Sometimes when people force an O-ring in with too much lube and too much pressure, they gouge the groove themselves and blame the hardware. I've seen it a dozen times. The o-ring trick works fine if you slow down and check the groove with your finger first, not just your eyes. Most of the time people waste hours because they skip the basic steps and then act surprised when something goes wrong.

Oh man, I ALWAYS thought it was the hardware being garbage too. But honestly you make a REALLY good point about checking with your finger first - I've definitely been guilty of just eyeballing it and then getting frustrated. Gonna try that next time before I go blaming the o-ring.
