Hot take: is gang cutting actually faster or just more dangerous?
I've been doing inland diving for about 6 years now and I always stuck to the old school way of cutting pipe one at a time with a bandsaw underwater. Last month on a job in Baton Rouge, the foreman told me to try gang cutting a whole rack of 8 inch pipes with a hydraulic shear. I was skeptical because I figured it'd be way harder to control the cut and the kickback. But after trying it on a few racks, I swear I cut my time per rack by almost 40 percent. The thing is, I also had a close call when a pipe shifted and almost pinned my hand. So now I'm wondering if the time saved is worth the extra risk of something going wrong. Has anyone else tried switching between methods and found one clearly better?

Have you ever had that moment where you're like "wow this is way faster" and then immediately "oh no I almost lost a finger"? That was me trying to speed up my spaghetti eating technique last week, but I feel like pipe cutting is a little more serious than that. I'd stick with your slower method and keep all your digits, man.
