Hot take: tracking dive time with a phone timer stops working fast after one saltwater splash.

Spent 45 minutes underwater on a bridge inspection last Thursday because my waterproof phone case fogged up and I couldn't read the timer at all; has anyone found a reliable backup that doesn't cost a week's pay?

The "waterproof phone case fogged up" part hit close to home. I started using a cheap dive watch with a rotating bezel as my backup timer. Set the bezel at the start time and you can read it underwater even if it's dark or murky. The Casio ones are like 30 bucks and they've survived multiple saltwater dunkings for me.

Yeah the bezel trick is solid. I do the same with an old G-Shock and it's never let me down even after years of abuse in saltwater.
