I bought a cheap underwater light from a boat shop in Seattle for a night job.
It lasted about twenty minutes before it filled with water and sank to the bottom, costing me a hundred bucks and making me finish the dive in the dark. I should have just rented a proper one from the dive shop. Anyone have a go-to brand for lights that can actually handle some depth?

Classic boat shop gear. At least it gave you a nice twenty minute light show on the way down.

My buddy bought a cheap bilge pump from a marine discount store. It failed halfway across the bay and filled his boat with water. He got the light show and a very long swim back to shore.

Picked up one of those cheap pumps myself last season from a flea market. Worked great for two trips, then started making a noise like a dying blender. Now I keep a bucket and a manual siphon hose as my backup plan. Lesson learned - sometimes you really do get what you pay for, even if it's just a little plastic pump.
